In Cater Link's bid to ensure only the freshest produce is used in our contracts, relief chef manager Jackie Smith was sent along to LJ Betts farm in West Malling, Kent to see how our lettuces are grown and cared for.
As you can see for yourselves the pictures speak for themselves, so every time you have your lettuce delivered to your unit be assured they have been grown with care and consideration to the environment keeping carbon emissions to a minimum and an average of 25 miles food miles from farm to fork!

Samantha Greer meets Aldo Zilli
16 March 2008
Samantha Greer from New North Community School in Islington was selected to a tasting panel at Aldo Zilli's restaurant to comment on Delia Smith's latest bestseller, How to Cheat at Cooking. Aldo cooked 5 of Delia's recipes. Those on the judging panel included our own Samantha, along with William Sitwell, the elegant and informed editor of Waitrose Food Illustrated; Giles Coren, reliably caustic columnist, restaurant critic and TV personality; Sybil Kapoor, formerly a chef and now an admired food writer; the ebullient and altogether larger-than-life Charita Jones, aka Momma Cherri of Momma Cherri's Soul Food Shack in Brighton.'
Sam had her name in lights in Friday 14th March's Guardian, and has become very much the celebrity in Islington

Nice and Nutritous
4 February 2008
More youngsters are enjoying hot school dinners after the borough appointed a specialist catering company to produce more nutritious meals.
Since the new contract with Cater Link began in September, the number of children choosing school lunches has gone up from 106,760 to 112,341 – a 5 per cent increase over the same period last year.
And there has been an even bigger increase among teachers, with 32 per cent more choosing their lunches from the new menu. Rachel Park¬inson, whose children Alex and Hannah attend Hanover School in Angel, said: "My two always had packed lunches, because a lot of the school food was processed. I don't give them processed food at home, so I definitely don't want them having it at school.
"Now things have changed. It's all fresh and there's a good choice with a lovely selection of fruit and vegetables.
"There is always the option of bread and butter, jacket potatoes and cheese, so the basics are always available."
